Torito's Mexican Restaurant

Today, a few of my co-workers and I decided to hit Torito's Mexican Restaurant for lunch. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Torito's, they are located in the Market City Shopping Center where Waialae Avenue and Kapiolani Boulevard intersect.

Parking at Market City is pretty ample during lunchtime and even with a sizable crowd at Torito's we were seated quickly. We didn't even bother looking at the menu, we all knew we came for the Torito's lunch special. For $7.75 the Torito's lunch special gives you your choice between a Taco, Burrito, Enchilada, Chimechanga, Casadilla and one other entree that I can't put my finger on. You also get the Mexican rice and your choice of black or refried pinto beans with the main course.

One of the nice things about dining in at Torito's is the free chips and salsa! Yummy! The salsa was perfect too. Not too bland, not to spicy. I'd call it a Medium.

I apologize for the poor quality of the photos but the lighting in the restaurant was too dark for "non-flash" photos and too bright for "flash" photos so I just went with the non-flash from my camera phone. My dish came first and my mouth dropped because I forgot how much food they serve for a "lunch" special. I had the shredded beef taco with the refried beans and rice. You can get the taco in hard or soft shell. I went with the hard.

I had "food envy" when I saw the waiter roll out this Burrito for one of my co-workers. He went with the black beans along with the rice. He described it as putting him under...in a good way.

My envy got even worse when I saw the Enchilada...

My favorite Mexican restaurant in town is still La Bamba but if you're in the area Torito's Mexican Restaurant is still an excellent choice for the quality of the food and the price. Needless to say for the rest of my work day I had "food coma." :) I would encourage you to check it out if you have a chance. They also do take out so you can pack this lunch special up or any other item on the menu to go, the only thing is that you would miss out on the free chips and salsa....but at least you'd be closer to a bed cause you'll need it after eating one of these plates....

Like Thom, I've never been there either. (Love Formaggios at Market City!)

Recently went to Mexico in Kalihi (Thom, is this the one you're talking about?. Crazy that sitting inside is *not* like being in Hawaii, certainly not Kalihi, LOL! Mexico, I'm not sure, as I've only visited Tijuana when I was a kid...

Muchos gracias for sharing!

I love La Bamba but it's so hard to find street parking in Kapahulu. Torito's is a nice alternative!
